Woolwich – Guelph
The office building is full of character, and our objective was to retain and accentuate its original charm while seamlessly enhancing its functionality for a modern-day professional workspace.
Interior and Exterior Details
Restoring this Edwardian building required difficult decisions on whether to restore in place or replace its intricate interior and exterior details. Each choice was made with an eye toward sensible conservation practices, ensuring that original elements were preserved where possible and carefully reproduced when necessary to maintain the building’s historic integrity and longevity.
Ornamental Plaster
Our approach to restoring the ornamental plaster focused on meticulous craftsmanship, using sensible techniques to preserve its intricate details while ensuring structural integrity and longevity.
Exterior Woodwork
Wherever possible, we carefully restored the original woodwork, but for severely deteriorated components, rather than relying on excessive epoxy repairs, we chose to replicate them using the original designs to maintain authenticity and durability.
Interior Woodwork
We carefully retained the original patina on the interior balustrade and newel post, preserving their aged character and historical authenticity. Through meticulous restoration, we revived the original finish, enhancing their beauty while honoring the craftsmanship of the era.
